This remarkable Plymouth, MN remodeling project came to life in two phases, completed several years apart as the homeowners settled into their new-construction home and refined how they wanted to use and enjoy each space.
The first phase introduced a Nantucket-inspired feel to the dining room and great room through elevated wainscoting, moody blue accents, crisp white shiplap, and custom wood details that brought warmth and understated coastal charm.
Now, several years later, the clients reached back out to us to remodel the mudroom and finish the lower level, building on the aesthetic that was established in the first remodel. Brick-pattern tile, paneled millwork, thoughtful storage, and a soft neutral palette with touches of deep blue-gray create functional, inviting spaces designed for everyday living and easy entertaining. Phase One – Setting the Tone
A quick look back at the initial remodel reveals where the story began and how the home’s stunning aesthetic first took shape. Initially, the clients wished to add finishing touches to their dining room and great room, two spaces central to daily life and gathering. Our team set out to create interiors that felt both sophisticated and welcoming, where every detail worked in harmony to bring a sense of warm, livable refinement to the home.
Inspired by organic textures and a crisp white backdrop, the upper level evokes an air of Nantucket charm. In the dining room, custom wainscoting, elevated to seven feet, introduces architectural interest, while a moody dark blue on the upper panels adds drama and understated elegance. In the great room, fresh white shiplap frames custom floating wood shelves and a handcrafted mantle, complementing the home’s existing warm wood beams. Decorative sconces punctuate the space, casting light on each thoughtful design detail that makes this upper level of the home truly one of a kind.
Phase Two – Building on the Vision
Several years later, the homeowners reached back out to us for phase two, a remodel that reimagines the main-floor mudroom and brings the previously unfinished lower level to life. The design carries forward the style established upstairs while creating a fully finished space that feels just as intentional and refined as the floors above.
Main Floor Mudroom
On the main floor, a fully remodeled mudroom transformed into a hardworking yet inviting entry point. Brick-pattern tile flooring offers durability and subtle texture, while wainscoting, running two-thirds of the way up the wall and accented with a row of hooks, gives a nod to the paneled millwork found elsewhere in the home. On the opposite wall, a full wall of custom lockers painted in a dusty sage green extends to the ceiling, with deep drawers below to provide ample storage for the family’s essentials.
Lower Level with Wet Bar and Fireplace
The lower level finish extends the home’s neutral palette, layered with a deep blue-gray accent that adds warmth and dimension. Floating shelves rest within softly arched alcoves flanking a low-profile modern gas fireplace with a TV mounted above, a cozy focal point for movie nights and hosting. A generous sectional anchors the seating area, creating room for a crowd.
Nearby, a beautifully appointed wet bar features custom blue-gray cabinetry, a beverage fridge, and floating shelves that mirror the fireplace wall. A neutral penny-tile backsplash with contrasting grout adds texture to the space, completing a lower level designed for both relaxation and entertaining.
