The Starting Point
The original kitchen showed its age and had a few limitations. Space felt tight and the homeowners were missing features they had long hoped for when cooking and entertaining. The island was undersized for the way they wanted to gather, while dated finishes and fixtures left the room feeling tired. Above all, they wanted a layout with better flow, one that could handle everyday routines and had room to host with comfort.
A large dining room window along the sink wall limited cabinet storage, while the overall footprint made moving around the island difficult. The double wall-oven doors didn’t allow for seating at the island when open. The cool-toned finishes made the space feel dated, missing the warmth the homeowners were looking for.
Tucked just off the kitchen, the original laundry room with its dark cabinetry and dated tile, held unused space that was repurposed to expand the kitchen.
A New Chapter
By borrowing just a touch of space from the laundry room and resizing the oversized dining window, the design team unlocked a larger island, better flow, and improved placement of the sink and range. This was all done within the original footprint. Adjustments allowed for increased storage and the addition of two separate ovens, one under the range and the second on the island, without compromising the flow of the space.
Refined cabinetry, paneled appliances, and a mix of natural materials, including a marble braided mosaic backsplash, bring warmth and timeless character. The result is a kitchen that feels open, functional, and beautifully detailed.
From paneled appliances to cabinets scribed to the floor and classic Cambria countertops, every detail was chosen to blend function with timeless sophistication.
Relocating the double ovens resolved the conflict with island seating, resulting in a more functional workflow. The expanded island not only adds prep space but also creates a comfortable gathering spot, anchored by a rich dark finish that adds warmth and contrast.
By resizing the dining room window, the design team was able to run cabinetry and place both the sink and range along one wall, maximizing storage while still bringing in natural light.
Warm stained maple on the island and a marble braided mosaic backsplash, complemented by classic subway tile on the adjacent wall, create a timeless aesthetic that blends craftsmanship with modern function.
A pocket door with reeded glass connects the kitchen to the laundry room, allowing light to filter through while providing privacy when guests are visiting.
A subtle 16-inch shift into the laundry room gave the kitchen just enough extra square footage to allow for a larger island and improved layout, dramatically enhancing the cooking zone. The remodeled laundry room was designed for dual purpose, allowing space for a pantry inset between the studs.
